Yes it is. I helped Phil take that approach when he took my master class on war and healing several years ago. He said he thought his book draft was done until he took the class and realized he could talk about the effects of generational war trauma and his own journey. Then I did the developmental edit for him. It's a great book.

Letters from Uncle Dave is a family history and historical journey, aiming for closure by one family, is a real American treasure. It's not only the story of a young American serving in WWII, it's a family story about what happens when that MIA or KIA telegram arrives. And how it permeates through the family when he's never found and the family is left in limbo, dealing with an ambiguous loss and unresolved grief that even affects more generations. (My mother lost her three younger brothers during the war, but that's all I knew because it was too difficult for her to talk about them. They were shadows during my growing up years.)
